Iron Pier in North Wind

Iron Pier in north wind is (or was today) less than ideal.  Here are some scintillating details from the session:

Van der Wolf, Bill, Scott, Jon Ford and I hit the Pier to see if it would be anywhere near as good in North winds as it is in NW.    There was fun to be had, but plenty of punishment:

-Grinding, sucking shore break took the fun out of launching.   The Wolf got put through his sail.

-The chop was better for loosening your fillings than for jumping.  Clean ramps were rare.

-The waves were okay, but nowhere near as nice as they can get at the Pier.

-Big holes in the wind...the move was to sail one board bigger than the rig called for.

It was still a good day (every day sailing is a great day sailing, as per Andy Brandt) but I think the next time it blows N I'm going to check out West Meadow or Meschutt.

I hate to say I told you so, but I had the best 2 hours I've ever had at West meadow while the tide was outgoing from 10:00 to 12:00. there were 20 ft jumps and backloops to be had on every run out and the inside was low enough tide to slide / carve through any trick super easy. Ed brought the crew down from Conn. Guys abandoned West Neck and West Meadow was THE place to be.

See you next time,

Mike

Argh!!!

(btw, to quote the Wolf, if you hate to tell me so, then why tell me?)

Let the record show that you did in fact tell me so...I shoulda listened.

We all have to do things we hate at some point, like learning to waterstart, but then after the fact it's lots of fun so I figured I'd throw the "I told you so" out there and see. Let's see........yup, that was fun.

I know it's a long way off, but next wed looks to do the same thing as per windfinder.com. Saturday is looking interesting too. We'll see

I was on my way to the pier and saw the wind was North, so I sailed Meschutt. It was ok, not great but I look forward to the pier on a strong NW soon. W meadow sounds nice, just a long way from E.H.

"It's good to have a shredmobile" my friend Caldwell said, so I made one. It's a Ford E150 cargo van done up with lumber and k-mart plastic boxes.
