Windsurfing on ice? Not this winter on Long Island. We made it without any of the bays freezing over. No boards dinged sliced open by iceburgs. No need for specialized gear. We barely broke out the dermatone. Whether it global warming (probably) or just luck (we got wind too) we had some fine windsurfing this winter. But it's time to move on...welcome Spring!
(The classic New York spring often includes a blizzard in early April...we will not be surprised if it comes. And we'll rig if it's windy.)
(Photo: Mecox, seen from the Yacht Club launch, one year ago today. We had to sail in between the frozen sections.)
oof, thanks for the reminder about the classic early-April blizzards. Been so tempted to just start gardening right in the garden...
14 miles in Norwalk Harbor yesterday. Woulda been more if I hadn't stopped to watch Tillerman's old yacht club's Laser fleet race.
