"What's the Bowl" is one of the questions I'm most often asked about eastern Long Island windsurfing locations. I've blathered about the place a dozen times, but I think an excellent quick view is afforded by Peconic Jeff's
new video on his blog.* As the camera pans to the right of the Shinnecock Inlet, the Bowl is well introduced and a quick bit of wave sailing is there to watch. Also enjoy the excellent guitar riff that introduces The Wolf as he drives up. The Wolf likes good electric guitar, and probably should always arrive accompanied by theme music.
(* A view "is afforded"? Obviously we're off our game today.)
I haven't sailed here in years. Can we park yet without permits?

There's a parking lot immediately to the east of the Bowl parking lot that I believe does not require permits. From the worst spots in the permitted parking area it only adds about 20 steps to the beach. Meanwhile I've only ever seen them checking permits once...usually when conditions are good for Bowl sailing (as Jeff pointed out in his blog) it's nasty enough that the police aren't worried about unpermitted vehicles.

I think the top lot is Southampton resident sticker only during the summer, and free and clear after Labor Day (like Ponquogue, Tiana and Roads K,L, etc.).
