It’s back! Following up on the success of the 2008 festival, the organizers are thrilled to announce the second annual East Coast Windsurfing Festival, taking place June 6-7, 2009 at New York’s Heckscher State Park in East Islip, Long Island.
Presented by last year’s master of ceremonies Thom Hering and “King of the East” Mike Burns, the 2009 event will once again feature racing, freestyle, and speed trial events, with sport, competitive, and junior classes. And once again, the focus will be on having a good time and getting everybody on the water. “Any time the rules preclude fun, we change the rules,” says MC Tom.
The Peconic Puffin will have updates in early 2009 as they are announced. To review all the fun of the 2008 event, click here.

That last photo made me think of a "You know your a hardcore windsurfer when....." answer. your board shorts are color coordinated to your sails.

This is great news. I had alot of fun (and learned alot) last year. Can't wait to do it all over again. I'm starting my diet now!

Puffin, I'm seriously going to make it there this year. It's got a mention in my blog too, and I'll keep talking about this. Look forwards to meeting you.

Ian, I look forward to it! Thanks for mentioning the event in your blog...as we get into 2009 I'm hoping we can get windsurfing bloggers across the east to pick up the event (but more importantly, windsurfers!)
Dennis, I learned a lot too at that event (mostly that I'll never beat Pete Roesch in a race!) How is the new board treating you?

Michael,
Unfortunately, I haven't tried it yet. I just got
my new (small) sails from Northwave last week (3.7
and 4.2) but haven't been out since. Actually, I
haven't windsurfed in a little over a month now,
I think. Definitely not as hardcore as you all.
I don't know if its from being over 50 years old, or
not, but I am having a hard time getting motivated
to get on the water when its cold. But, I will force
myself to get out soon.
I'm going skiing next week, so maybe I'll get back
to windsurfing in Feb. (need to get a little time
in before Bonaire and also need to get ready for
the 09 ECWF and move up in the standings a bit from
last year - no swimming the rig in this time!)
Hope to be out wsing soon.
Also, thanks to Mike B. and Thom Hering for making
this thing happen again. Its a great event.
