I bring my drysuit indoors after every session, but will often leave gloves/booties/hood in the van. Last week I was having a bit of trouble getting my left foot into its booty…was my foot somehow less slippery today? Finally my foot slid in…to the solid block of ice that was the left booty, which had apparently frozen overnight when temperatures got down to the high teens. This is what I get for rinsing the sand off them with fresh water.
I checked the right bootie. It was also ice. As I tried blowing into it to thaw the inside, my left foot went novacaine numb. I removed the left booty. In the end it took 15 minutes of creative use of heating vents to make the booties wearable and bring sensation back to my foot.
The booties come inside now.
