It’s been two months since the gang’s had an ocean session. That snowy wavy day in early January held so much promise.
Or so it seemed. It’s goshdarn MARCH and we’re still waiting for our next date with the Atlantic. That’s too long (not that I’m unhappy sailing the bays.)
In the meantime, here are a few items of note from other blogs:
Scooper, who sails up in Cape Cod (where it’s surely colder than Long Island) puts forth the proposition that the biggest contribution of drysuits to winter windsurfing is not that they keep you warm, but that they cut off the flow of blood to the brain.
“You don't need a brain to windsurf. You just need a functioning lower brain stem and a little animal instinct…once the drysuit is on and the blood supply to the brain is squeezed off, it's easy to jump in near freezing water and sail blissfully away.”
Scooper rarely fails to put a smile on my face.
Andy of Lost In Hatteras is in (this is so unfair) Maui. The guy lives in Hatteras, where it’s perpetually warmer/windier/wavier (not to mention Hatterasier) and gets about 500 sessions per year there, and he goes to Maui. I have never liked Andy.
Lastly, I invite you to check out a post about the need for an extremely sharp knife. Towmasters isn’t a windsurfing blog (it’s a tugboat blog whose author I met at a recent surface waters blogging symposium)…in his post Wicked Shahp he tells the tale of what he keeps handy to cut the massive towline if whatever he’s hauling starts to sink, and successfully cutting the line is a matter of life and death.
(Photo by Jeff: Accumulation of 1-3" on your gear is fine, if you also get some wave time at Ponquogue.)
Love you too, Micheal.

Mike,
Hey, a smile on your face puts a smile on my face, or something like that.
