I hadn't sailed the Pier since January (nor had the rest of the crew, though a few of the guys caught a sesh there last week.) It's not my favorite spot...for West wind I prefer Sebonac Inlet, and for NW Meschutt. Iron Pier is chaotic on the outside, and on the inside there's no way to exit the water without abuse. But in between the shore and the outside is some of the best jumping on port you can find on Long Island, so if you're in the mood to grab a piece of sky, Iron Pier works.
It was Frank, the Wolf, Scott and myself on smaller four meter sails (me 4.5 and 77 liter board) absolutely lit. After a few hours the wind strengthened, and that was the cue to derig and call it a day. Had the wind lightened a bit we might have seen Franks beautiful new RRD twin tip in action. It's the coolest-looking board I've seen in awhile...the photos on the web do it no justice at all
