The Wolf said "Don't make me come to Mecox...I don't like the flat water" so I let him go to New Suffolk (to sail the flat water) while I joined Eileen at Mecox. Mecox, which was frickin' perfect.
I arrived to find Eileen adjusting her sail. "It's too windy for me to be out there alone," she said as I quick put up a 5.3, enjoying the view of a bay fulla whitecaps. Launched from the Yacht Club and took off like a shot.
There was jumping and jibing and duck jibing and backwind jibing (first time I've hit on on the 93) and 360's and duck 360's. There was a push tack (bad idea) and attempts at duck tacks (bad idea) and helitacks (bad idea). Downwind was da ting in dese winds mon.
And there was speed. Flat out screaming reaches (in between the ramps at either end of the bay). I must dig out my GPS armband for the next time we get conditions like this, just to see how fast I can push it. Did I mention that I should have been on a 4.5 and a 77 liter board?
But the bay was friendly and warm and fun, overpowered though we may have been. Eileen (LIT on a 5.0) said it reminded her of great windsurfing days of old at the Yacht Club. Seemed like it had been years since anyone caught it there so good.
And so it was, 'till lighting and thunder chased us away. One of the all-time best sessions I've ever had at Mecox, and one of my favorite sessions of the year. Yeah!
(93 liter board and 5.3 sail catch their breath after hours of overpowered joy. It was just too much fun out there to come in to re-rig.)
This sounds like Tuesday afternoon for a small group at West Dennis Beach, but one size smaller (4.7 on a 84 liter board, shoulda been 4.2 on a 74l board, but I was having too much fun to re-rig). Outgoing tides made for perfect ramps, so much jumping and jibing there, too, until the lightning chased *us* in. The good part of the session was just one hour, but wow! What an hour it was!
