"The unaimed arrow never misses."
That bit of new-age babble can be found on a postcard of otherwise pretty cool sayings called "Maui Rules" that's glued to the roof of my van (best rule: "Speak softly and wear a loud shirt.") I bring it up because I've decided not to have a list of resolutions for my 2011 windsurfing year. Or SUPing year for that matter. For four years I've made resolution lists. For four years I've been able to check some items off while failing to achieve others. For four years there has been no corrolation between my efforts and results...it's almost entirely come down to conditions (ie "I'm going to duck tack" doesn't have much of a chance when I sail three flatwater days for the year.) Conditions, and I'm a slow learner. So for 2011 I'm not saying anything beyond I'm aiming for a good year.
From Ocean Size by Jane's Addiction: "I want to be more like the ocean. No talking, all action."
Good song- got me right up and moving this morning!

I often play it en route to ocean sessions. I met the singer years ago...he was wearing a wetsuit (and we weren't at the beach!)

Love that tune.
I've been thinking the same thing regarding resolutions... not sure how important they are. Stay healthy, sail a lot.
Although, I think someone needs to be completely resolved to get something like a vulcan or a loop... but that can come on the day you're going for them maybe...

That's awesome! You've inspired me to resolve the same thing. Also, I didn't know Perry Farrell surfed. Interesting fella.

Aaron...I'm just talking about new year's resolutions, not dropping out from learning. There are days I try to loop (kudos for your success a year or two ago). And I also spend time punishing myself in pursuit of duck tacks. I'm ALWAYS trying to do a better job in the waves. I'm just not declaring a mission this year, though staying healthy is a good one (as I wait to find out what's wrong with my right hip...) To learn to vulcan with any consistency probably requires a mission...that's what it took for me to learn jibing (that and nine lessons with Dasher.)
James, also consider "Up the Beach" from the same album. And if you catch the video for "Classic Girl" I think he does some surfing in there as well. The story was that the band wanted to combine a music video shoot with a surfing vacation.
I know lots of ridiculous trivia about Jane's.

Nice bloomers and corset, might try that next time I surf at Gilgo. Then again, maybe not. I'd listen to the tune again though, crank that one up in the Shred Van of Love.
