Last we ran a piece about windsurfing's 100 Rule, Long Island Style, in which the traditional temperature guideline of:
Air temperature + Water temperature = 100 or higher,
or it's too cold to sail, while the rule for many Long Island windsurfers works out to be more like
Air temperature + Water temperature + Wind Speed + Weeks since last session + 5 (if it's sunny) = 100 or higher.
Now Windsport Magazine is asking readers to submit their comments, formulae, observations and soforth. What are your guidelines? Does the significant other and availability of hot tea fit in? The magazine wants to know.
I'll get back to you in 2 weeks from St. Martin. I'm thinkin' the rule will be something like, 80 F air temp + 80 F water temp + 16 mph windspeed + 2x(no. of drinks with those little umbrellas or fruit in them). So, that makes about a 184 rule, I'm guessin'. Oh, but add 5 more if I feel like a nap on the beach. Add another five if there's lots of those French girls getting sun . . .
