I live in MD, but may be on LIslnd this weekend. Where would you all typically go for SSW 10-13kn that's forecasted? I'm interested in both the sound (between Fire Island and Long Island) and ocean side. Peconic Bay possibly, if wind is good enough.
I've seen the WS Locations Map on this site and have sailed once 8yrs ago from Webbies(I believe) - just wondering where people might go this weekend.

Hi Fil...sorry for the late response. Hopefully you ended up at Heckscher or somewhere mid-island...the wind did not make it out east. That being said, the best place to sail on the Peconic Bays for SSE in summer is either Mattituck (on the bay) or South Jamesport. On the South fork Mecox Bay and of course Napeague work. But we didn't get it yesterday...oh well!

Thanks Michael!
I did not make it up there (like the wind:), ended up making a trip the opposite way - to the mouth of Potomac on Chesapeake (Point Lookout). Found just enough wind for to play on 11.5/formula.

Will keep your tips in mind for the upcoming weekends!

Actually, the wind eventually cranked on the Peconic on Saturday, with a large crew of rentals and lessons down at Cold Spring Road. Low teens SW in the morning, then 2-4 mph NE early afternoon, then finally 18-22 SW after 3pm.

"It's good to have a shredmobile" my friend Caldwell said, so I made one. It's a Ford E150 cargo van done up with lumber and k-mart plastic boxes.
