Windsurfing Swap Meet (and SUP and Kiteboarding) Coming...

...September 17th at Hampton Watersports.  Ainchoo on their email list?  Cause it says:

Saturday, 9AM to 4PM.

 

Buy or sell used Standup Paddleboarding, Windsurfing, Kiteboarding and Surfing gear. 

Buying - closeouts available, specials on closeout '16 equipment, and loads of used gear to choose from. 

Selling - Please drop your used gear by the shop from now thru the 17th (swap day) before 9am.

Rain or shine, windy or not, swap will run. See you then!

North Sails in Manhattan?

"A new windsurfing shop in Manhattan" I wondered?   Then "could it be a sailboat store?"   No and No.  At the site of what used to be Paul Smith's menswear shop (where I once interviewed Dee Dee Ramone) North Sails now appears to be a fashion brand.   Oh well.   I saw a surf shop in Kansas last month.  Yep.

Save The Waves Film Festival Comes Out East

The Save The Waves Film Festival is making it's way along the East Coast, and will be stopping in Easthampton on Friday September 2nd at Guild Hall.   Noted Puffin/Wind Chimp/maker of films Christian has a hand in it, and he says "it'll be a spectacular evening of beer, surf movies and attention to this fragile playground we get to take advantage of so much."

How do you say no to that?

Other stops on the tour include Virginia Beach and Long Beach Island, but if you want to say Hi to Christian you'll really need to get out to East Hampton.  For more information, check out the Save The Waves Film Festival web site.

Parking in South Jamesport...Be Careful!

There had been the optimistic sense that you could park at South Jamesport without a permit.  Now the word is:  WRONG!

A wind chimp who shall not be named to protect his anonymity had a chat with a constable.  "Locals have been complaining" he learned.   The officer said  a parking permit is needed until September 30th. They will be giving tickets. The land of NO!

The fine is $100

There's a sign calling for permits at Mattituck to, is the word.

Be careful parking up there in high season!

ABK Windsurfing Clinics...They Are Coming

He is coming.  They are coming.   And so we all should be going!   Two ABK windsurfing clinics on Long Island, and one in New Jersey, courtesy Andy Brandt and his ace team of instructors.   The Napeague clinic is sold out, but spots still remain for the Tiana clinic (Tiana with its shallow friendly waters, lots of parking, bathrooms and proximity to the ocean beaches.)     If you're an ABK veteran you know the deal.  If you're not but always wanted to try one, take advantage of September's warm waters!   If you don't know about ABK, it's outstanding instruction tailored to your skill level (with groups for everybody from First Time Windsurfers to Accomplished Freestylers and everyone in between.)  The wife and I are taking a clinic...you should too!  As ABK says:  Get Better Here!  (Also it's loads of fun and you make new friends.)   The dates:

Tiana Bay:  September 23-25

Atlantic City:  September 30-Oct 2.

Ducking Responsibilities? What Happened to The Peconic Puffin?

What the heck happened to the blog?  One post per month?   Lame...  Yes it's true.  The "why" is my wife and I rented out our house for the summer, and so your humble editor is marooned in New York City until Labor Day weekend is concluded.   My skin is dry and itchy...my body feels wrong.  Acute lack of salt water exposure, aggravated by a lack of planing, exacerbated by a lack of wave therapy.  Just terrible.   In the interim there may be the odd guest report (thank you Peconic Jeff for the last one) and I may sneak out one midweek day if the stars align.   Until then, good sailing and surfing to you!
