"Sunday looks good" texted the Earl of Kielt.   A quick check of la forecasta confirms.

East winds in the 20's gusting to the 30's.   Could be ocean.  Could be East Landing.   Mayhaps Napeague.

And there is no football to watch...

 

 

SUPSailing on a Sunny February Day

I hadn't been in the water in 90 days.   That's probably a record for me in the last decade.  Way too long!   But Christian pinged me on Friday about the possibility of a Saturday paddle, and I said Count Me In.   Then a breeze came up and SUP became SUPSailing, with Mr. Charles and Joe Natalie, at Dolphin Road.   Thigh high with the occasional legit three footers, we had a fine time.  38 degrees but sunny.   Using the Long Island Rule of 100:

Air temp + Water temp + Wind speed + weeks since last session + 5 if it's sunny yielded

38 +38 +9 +12 +5 = 102.   I was fine!

Top Ten Reasons for Women to Date a Windsurfer (Valentines Day edition)

Ladies, are you still searching for that special someone?   Consider looking amongst the windsurfers:


1. The ratio of men to women is 4 to 1.
2.  They can talk about something besides football.
3.  They don’t smell too bad because it’s a good bet they’ve gotten wet recently.
4.  They have another interest besides sex.
5.  You know they’re rich enough to afford windsurfing equipment.
6.  You always get the latest weather report, several times a day.
7.  They are capable of commitment, at least to their sport.
8.  They have no issues about wearing rubber.
9.  You always know where they are, at least when it’s windy.
10.  Windsurfers are generally fit, tanned, and have cute butts.

Non-windsurfing men should NOT...repeat NOT...pursue windsurfing women, unless they are prepared to immediately throw themselves into the sport.  Otherwise they will soon be surrounded by angry windsurfing men who all seek the great and rare prize:  the girlfriend or wife who windsurfs (the editor is so blessed.)    To squander such a find on a landlubber is an offense to those of us who sheet in!  

There is the opinion held by a small minority that it is a drag to be a man whose significant other windsurfs...you probably have to rig for them, they use your equipment etc. but generally speaking the willingness of such wahines to take windsurfing vacations, to understand why the garage needs to be packed with piles of expensive wet gear etc. outweighs the rigging/sharing concerns.  Discussion of such matters is encouraged.

Five Weeks Until Spring

I enjoy winter windsurfing.  Really do.   But I don't have a single session so far this winter.

I am ashamed.

There have been sessions...I have been included in the texts...but always I've been unavailable.   Perhaps next weekend?   I am eager!
